Generating Public facility in a tropical Urban Environment – Ana Terra Capobianco, MArch Dissertation 2012
The design proposal is for reuse of the existing internal structure of a viaduct located in a neglected area in the center of Sao Paulo. The reconfiguration of the space of the viaduct generates public and communal spaces. The design proposes a series of public swimming pools, a facility that relates to a broader discussion of the city’s environment. The maintenance of the water temperature guaranties the thermal comfort of the users, whilst providing differentiates thermal experiences. In this context, the understanding of climate and microclimatic characteristics suggests a passive system that better performs in terms of energy and operation and also generates an atmosphere where bringing people together in a bathing experience is the ultimate design objective.
